One of my favourite things about making creative software is eventually losing track of what people are going to do with it. Years before I made Dither Boy, I used to make tutorials focused on glitchy image processing, including one on processing images with the audio software "Audacity"
So it was a nice full-circle moment when we recently came across the work of Sour (@2_s0ur).
After reaching out by email, we found out that 2_S0ur was using the same Audacity glitching process I used to use years ago, completely independently, with Dither Boy now ending up as part of the process too.

Seeing Dither Boy somehow find its way back into that process via 2_S0ur's work without any involvement from my tutorial is satisfying because it means Dither Boy is reaching MY KIND OF PEOPLE!
Sour's green portrait is probably my favourite of the pieces he sent over. I love how clearly the face still reads through the diffusion dithering, despite almost everything being broken up and distorted.
The post processing through Audacity uses the dithered output to as it's input: meaning any resulting glitches from the Audacity processing will already be un-natural or in other words, the output is unlikely to resemble the original pre-dithered face.
Combined, the outputted artwork is a face almost emerging out of the diffusion and distortion around it, and would effortlessly feel at home in a sci-fi horror movie or dystopian cyberpunk setting.
