Dither Boy v4.2 Update

Dither Boy has a new update available at https://updates.studioaaa.com/dither-boy/

Update 4.0 Recap

Dither Boy’s v4.0 update was released in July 2025 and added in:

  • Colour shading
  • Palette loading & import
  • Depth Slider
  • New theme support
  • Improved video compatability
  • Improved preset system

Unfortunately, Microsoft put out a Windows 11 update right after our Dither Boy v4 update and for a very small number of users, broke some of the new features! As a result, I spent most of July digging through Microsoft release notes and replying to emails while we tried to get a fix going.

Update 4.2?

During the process, I realized we should probably have some kind of FAQ and support system for communicating issues like this going forward, so along with the fixes in 4.2:

  • We now have a new inbox at “[email protected]”
  • I bought the world’s slowest and cheapest Windows 11 laptop to test Dither Boy on going forward
  • I have started an FAQ blog post and updated the contact us page with new information
  • I will be prioritizing communication about future updates through things like this blog, our social media, and our email communication
  • We will maintain our offering of Dither Boy v3 while v4 is in development just in case issues come up that are specific to v4, and so on.
  • I have expended the list of people who test new versions before they go out by double the amount, meaning double the amount of testing

So, in Dither Boy 4.2 and onward, you can expect more information readily available to you about changes and updates, or issues we become aware of such as the Windows 11 bug mentioned above

The actual update:

So, with that out of the way. Dither Boy v4.2 has:

  • Newly added export settings based on user feedback from those of you who are sending your Dither Boy work to print
    • Located in Help > Settings
  • Improved colour palette behind the scenes work to accomodate our next update (secret, sorry)
  • Added “Help > Export Support Log” so that when you email us for help, we can get the info needed to implement any future fixes
  • Link to this blog in “Extras”
  • Fixed video import bug, fixed Windows 11 bug
  • Fixed all other small bugs that we were made aware of

In summary, Dither Boy v4.2 lays some boring ground work for our next update, and fixes all of the bugs we were made aware of.
